Week 1 – Jeff Maness – January 7th, 2018

Whatever is first in your life, that is what you will fear the most. This is why it’s so important for us to put God first. Our fear of Him will drive our faith in Him. Not being afraid of God, but standing in awe of who He is.

First: Faith

Whatever you fear the most will reveal what is first in your life.

Luke 20:19 19 The teachers of religious law and the leading priests wanted to arrest Jesus immediately because they realized he was telling the story against them—they were the wicked farmers. But they were afraid of the people’s reaction.

Big Question: How do I put God first in my life?

Main Scripture: Isaiah 8:13-14

Isaiah 8:13a Make the Lord of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life.

1 Peter 3:15 Instead, you must worship Christ (set apart Christ) as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.

1. Set Him Apart

Romans 11:36 For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.

Isaiah 8:13b He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble.

2. Stand In Awe

Isaiah 6:5 It’s all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. I have filthy lips, and I live among a people with filthy lips. Yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Heaven’s armies.

Job 42:5-6 5 I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. 6 I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”

3. Seek Him For Safety

Isaiah 8:13-14a Make the Lord of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life. He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble. 14 He will keep you safe.

Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.

Isaiah 8:13-14 Make the Lord of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life. He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble. 14 He will keep you safe. But to Israel and Judah he will be a stone that makes people stumble, a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.
