Week 5 – Jeff Maness – March 11th, 2018
No one enters marriage thinking, “I hope we get divorced.” Everyone wants their marriage to survive, but even more than that, we want our marriages to thrive. A thriving marriage is not built by moments though, it is built by making the right decisions moment by moment.
It Takes Two – Thrive
A thriving marriage does not depend on moments, it is decided moment by moment.
Big Question: What decisions lead to a thriving marriage?

Philippians 2:3-7a 3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. 5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
1. Submit Yourself
Ephesians 5:22 For wives, this means submit to your husband as to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:21 And further, submit to one another out of reverence forChrist.
Song of Solomon 7:1a How beautiful are your sandaled feet, O queenly maiden.
He was not demanding that she bow before him; rather, he was on his knees before her. — Tommy Nelson (The Book Of Romance)
Song of Solomon 7:10 I am my lover’s, and he claims me as his own.
Do not consider equality with your spouse as something to cling to, but rather, give up your personal privileges.
1 Corinthians 7:4 The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife.
Philippians 2:7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave (servant) and was born as a human being.
2. Submit to serve
Ephesians 5:25a For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church.
Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Proverbs 31:10-12 10 Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies. 11 Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. 12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.

Philippians 2:7b-11 When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
3. Submit to the Savior
Ephesians 5:21 And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Song of Solomon 8:6-7 Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, its jealousy as enduring as the grave. Love flashes like fire, the brightest kind of flame. 7 Many waters cannot quench love, nor can rivers drown it. If a man tried to buy love with all his wealth, his offer would be utterly scorned.
